Her emphasis centers around getting her patients healthy enough to care for themselves so they need her only for tune-ups and major life events. Dr. Johnson is particularly conscious of meeting patients where they are and holding space for them throughout the process of finding and maintaining wellness. She utilizes a broad tool box of modalities such as nutrition, botanical medicine, Bowen therapy, Emotional Freedom Technique, Carroll Food Intolerance testing and classical homeopathy. Classical homeopathy is a passion for her as this medicine fosters the development of an understanding of each individual’s uniqueness. She enjoys the connections created with her patients and the successes they have in overcoming deep seated obstacles.
Dr. Johnson is Board Certified by the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Examiners. In 2004 she received her doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon. She is currently in her fifth year of post doctorate studies in classical homeopathy with Drs. Paul Herscu and Amy Rothenburg of the New England School of Homeopathy (NESH). She completed her undergraduate studies at Michigan State University, where she received her BA in microbiology and public health, igniting in her a fascination for the intricate balance of life. She gained an appreciation for the essential nature of the matrix of microorganisms in our digestive tract, believing this to be the key to optimal health. Her foundation in natural healing came from an apprenticeship with renowned healer and educator Daniele Laberge in the Eastern provinces of rural Quebec. With Ms. Laberge’s mentorship on her Biodynamic herb farm, L’Armoire aux Herbes, Amy learned a down to earth approach to holistic health care.
In addition, Dr. Johnson has recently become a faculty member at the Birthingway Midwifery College teaching physical assessment skills. She teaches wellness classes and hosts seasonal group cleanses from her home clinic Blue House. She is certified in Bowen technique, a type of body work that seeks to reset the neuromuscular tone, which can be especially helpful after trauma and with chronic issues. Dr. Johnson does ongoing continuing education in Functional Gastroenterology.
To relax Amy enjoys cultivating an extensive garden where she grows many of the herbs used in her practice. She also loves to spend time with friends cooking delicious meals, singing and playing music. She values the great sense of community that is rich here in Portland, as well as the proximity to such gorgeous places to camp, hike and swim.
