It is found growing in the higher altitude regions of China, Russia and Pakistan. It is a perennial dioecious herb with a long slender root and thick elongated rhizome. Each rhizome supports a simple erect flowering stem and scaly radical leaves. It is one of about 90 species from the Rhodiola genus which are all found growing in the cold areas of the Northern Hemisphere. Another name of Rhodiola Quadrifida is Pallas.
